Proven Strategies. Exceptional Results.

Teaching Background

With 15 years’ experience teaching Economics at leading UK independent and international schools, including Rugby, Benenden and the International School of Milan, Carl now specialises in online tutoring for sixth form students across all major exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, and the IB Diploma.

Tailored Support

Whether strengthening conceptual understanding early in the course, navigating the increased complexity of Grade 12, preparing for mock examinations, or excelling in intensive revision during Grade 13, Carl adapts his approach to each student's needs. He combines deep subject expertise with proven examination strategy to help students consistently achieve results that surpass expectations.

Complete Exam Preparation

Carl’s systematic approach develops all key areas of examination success including crafting clear analytical chains of reasoning, refining evaluative essay structures, strengthening mathematical competency, ensuring precision in diagrams, and connecting theory to contemporary real-world applications. He also offers specialist guidance on IB Internal Assessments, helping students write concisely yet powerfully to meet each rubric requirement.

Personal Development

Beyond technical mastery, Carl focuses on developing genuine confidence and fostering a lasting appreciation for economics that extends into students' university studies and professional careers. He also helps students develop independent learning skills and critical thinking abilities that benefit them across all academic subjects.

Student Destinations

Carl's students have secured places at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College London, UCL, Harvard, Columbia, UCLA, and other leading universities worldwide.

“I achieved a 7 in Economics HL - a result I honestly do not think I would have reached without Mr. Fisher. He made excellence feel achievable rather than intimidating.”

When I met Mr Fisher mid-year, I was genuinely struggling. His standards were high from day one, but within weeks his structured approach, attention to detail, and genuine investment in my progress began to feel completely natural.

What made the difference was not just his knowledge of the subject, but the way he organised everything from a student’s perspective including past paper breakdowns, probability-ranked questions, key definitions, and small incentives that made even the hardest revision feel motivating.

“Carl has been an outstanding teacher of Economics and a transformational Head of Department. Those taught by Carl recognised swiftly his fierce intellect and high expectations. Students would learn quickly that if they followed his advice progress would be rapid and happiness would follow. They were also won over by Carl's quick wit and legendary work ethic.”

Tellingly no one taught by Carl complained about his high standards when exams began to loom, or when they received results in August. They all knew that they had a teacher who could not have been more supportive or worked harder on their behalf.

The efforts of Carl and his department have been reflected in the consistently outstanding results during his tenure as Head of Department. Carl's top priority as Head of Economics has been to make a real difference to the students who study in the department. He has succeeded.

“As cliché as it sounds, Mr. Fisher was to me like a ray of light in the dark, a lighthouse cutting through the fog of Economics.”

When I met him, I had no idea what was going on in my economics lessons at school. I always felt behind the other students, and no matter how hard I tried, I continued to do poorly.

I tried to find tutors online. After going through three of them over the Easter break, I found them to be incredibly mediocre; none had a passion for the subject or an expert grasp of exam technique and strategy.

Leading up to the predicted grade exams, I barely scraped a B. I was devastated. There was no possible way I could apply to any law school with A*, A*, B as my predicted grades.

Then came Mr. Fisher. I remember ending the Skype call and thinking to myself, "Wow, now THIS is how a tutor should be." Even from our first lesson, he had an air of professionalism about him that was also strangely welcoming. Mr. Fisher has a unique skill for dissecting complicated economic theories and diagrams into simple, digestible parts.

This work raised my score from a low B to somehow scraping the A* boundary. Even my schoolteacher was surprised by the rapid improvement. I went from second from the bottom of the class to the top over the course of the year.

When results day arrived and I saw that I had achieved 3 A*s, I immediately sent an email to Mr. Fisher to thank him. As I write this, I am now a year into my legal studies at UCL. Without Mr. Fisher, my dream of getting into law school would have been close to impossible.

“If your son or daughter has an aptitude for economics but is not achieving the grades they want, then tutorial sessions with Mr. Fisher will make the difference.”

Your child may understand economic concepts but unless their use of language is disciplined, structured and precise, they risk giving the impression to an examiner that they are not quite A*/A material.

Carl is meticulous in his approach. The first time he marked one of my daughter's pieces of work, it was returned with more corrections and useful notes squeezed onto the pages than I could believe imaginable. This can be a bit daunting at first, but progress is remarkably fast.

His approach to extension work, taking students well beyond the confines of the A-level syllabus, was legendary during his time at Benenden. And all this delivered with good humour and endless patience.
